Installation of Community Bike Racks in Winter Park
The City is installing 34 bike racks throughout the city.
Ten have been installed along Park Avenue, and six others at the Azalea Lane Recreation Center and Mead Garden park. The remaining racks will be installed by January, 2009.

Fitness Trail at Lake Island Park
The fitness trail, called L.I.F.E. (Lake Island Fitness Experience), includes 10 physical activity stations is now in place, and in use.

Community Fitness Trail at Lakemont Elementary School
The fitness trail to be built at the new Lakemont Elementary School is designed to promote school and community wellness.
It should be completed by January, 2009.

Start-up of a Farmers Market in the Town of Eatonville in partnership with Hebni Nutrition Consultants Inc.
Because there are no grocery stores within 10 miles of the Town, the farmers market will make fresh fruits and vegetables available providing a healthy boost to the community.
The market is tentatively due to open November 16, 2008 and will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday.

Club FYT (Fitness for Youth and Teens), an after-school health and fitness program by the YMCA at Dommerich and Lake Sybelia elementary schools and Glenridge and Maitland middle schools
The program started at Lake Sybelia Elementary School on October 22 and will begin at the other three schools in early November, 2008.

The formation of an Interfaith Council on Health, a faith-based partnership of churches in Eatonville, Maitland and Winter Park
The Council launched “Our Whole Community,” a program which encourages intergenerational physical fitness and healthy nutrition, in September. The founding churches include First United Methodist Church, Winter Park; Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Eatonville; St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Winter Park and Winter Park Presbyterian Church.

Community Running/Walking Track and Health Awareness Program proposed by Hungerford Elementary in Eatonville
The track is due to be completed and ready for use by the community in February, 2009. Health Awareness Program activities will begin at the same time.

Super Suppers and Nutrition Education program at the Winter Park Day Nursery offering parents affordable, healthy meals and lessons on preparation
The first parent education night was held in September and more are scheduled in coming months. Super Suppers are offered to parents twice a month.

Safe Routes to School Grantee Contact List
Aloma Elementary School will receive $350 to support promotion of and prizes offered in its monthly Walk ‘N Roll Wednesday event which encourages students to walk, roll, skate or scoot to school rather than riding in a car.

Brookshire Elementary School will receive $5,000 to help revitalize a Safe Routes to School Program formerly established by past parent Jana Ricci. Plans call for monthly “Walk and Roll Wednesdays” and introducing The Walking School Bus concept.

Dommerich Elementary School will receive $5,000 to support “the installation of an aesthetically appealing bike shelter to showcase the value that the school, students and community place on bike commuting.”

Hungerford Elementary School will receive $4,800 to improve safe walking conditions by upgrading the school cross walk and pavement markings, as well as providing a flashing beacon to slow down traffic.

Glenridge Middle School will receive $5,000 to provide new safety equipment as well as materials to launch a Walk ‘n Roll program.

Maitland Middle School will receive a $5,000 grant to “fund the installation of a highly visible, donated bike shelter atop a new and appealing bike rack” to “upgrade the status of the bike rider….”

Winter Park High School, in hopes of launching a “Bike it Back to School” campaign, will receive $5,000 to cover the cost of security cameras, a DVR and bicycle racks for the bike corral so students know their bicycles will be secure at school.
